Centering Scottdale

Centering Scottdale reimagines a car-dependent suburban center as a walkable neighborhood, bringing together housing, local commerce, public spaces, and alternative mobility within a more connected urban environment.

Scope

People Centric Urbanism

Approach

The proposal builds on Scottdale's existing urban assets and the DeKalb County overlay plan, examining how modest increases in density, climate-responsive design, and micro-transit could support a less automobile-dependent town center.

Intervention

The design transforms an existing corridor into a pedestrian-oriented main street, connecting car-free residential areas, small-scale retail, community gathering spaces, and a mobility hub. Together, these elements establish a framework for a more accessible and climate-responsive neighborhood.
